Working Together

One of the best things you get when you work with me is that you get all of me! I am fully committed to ensuring that your participants have the most powerful experience possible through visual learning.

Working_Together_cw_2Part of my job is to ensure that you’re meeting your objectives, so I help you look at the experience of the meeting from the participants’ perspective. What do they need in order to maximize their learning? What visual tools and recording methods would best support you – or your facilitator – in getting the most from the group? What products and processes would help them stretch their thinking – before, during, and after the meeting? All of these (and more) are questions I’ll explore with you when we work together.

As you can see from this, there’s a lot more to graphic recording and visual facilitation than drawing beautiful pictures on the wall. And I’d love to help you envision all the possibilities of working visually! The best way to do that, and to ensure that you get the most out of your engagement with me, is simply this: bring me into your design process as early as possible. This allows me to make suggestions, share ideas, and think about your meeting as a whole. The earlier you bring me into the conversation – ideally, at the point when you start planning and designing your event – the more opportunity I have to bring value to the table.

Consider me your visual partner and co-designer of high-impact events. I can create:

  • Planning documents and templates beforehand that help you orient participants to the purpose and objectives of the meeting, present background information in engaging and easy-to-understand ways, and generally keep your meeting on track.
  • Follow-up documents after the event to summarize key learnings, provide tools for further reflection and engagement, and keep people connected to purpose between related events.
  • Visual facilitation processes to engage participants during the meeting (consider these as Fun With Benefits!)
  • A continuum of tools and processes that guarantee your participants bring their full, creative selves to every stage of the process.

In addition to all this, I have an amazing network of colleagues – graphic recorders, visual facilitators and regular facilitators – and love nothing more than assembling great teams when a project requires more than just a lone graphic recorder. My connections also enable me to refer you to one of my associates when I’m not available, to get you just the right person for your job.

Avril is a gifted visual storyteller with incredible energy and strong interpersonal skills. For five days she facilitated our company’s presence at the TED Conference, documenting conversations between our staff and TED conference attendees. Her bold, colorful graphics were the major draw to our booth space and helped us attract hundreds of curious conference goers. Avril is professional, yet friendly and engaging. She comes with strong ideas but is also highly open to feedback and direction. We photographed all her drawings and have since used them in many sales pitches and proposals. In a world of more expected graphic design, her hand-drawn graphics really stand out in the crowd.
